Detailed description:
Paddler Jöns Aschan is preparing to make an exceptional tour from the Gullö island in the archipelago of Ekenäs (fin Tammisaari) to Hanko (swe Hangö). Normally this time of the year the archipelago waters would be covered with ice, and skateable. If the plans hold he would arrive in Hanko on the Itälahti beach in from of the monument at Merikatu street. He will then get together at the Hotel Vila Maija "open doors day" where a number of local services will be presented to companies and private visitors. If the waters are open all the way then the tour of 30 kilometers might take around 4 hours. However, headwinds would might double the time and tailwind shorten the travel time with an hour. If the water freezes partially then the tour distance may become much longer with turns to more open water. Packed broken ice would make passage very difficult. For the time beeing we do not have any predictions on wind and temperature so the exact time for when to start is held open. At latest the start time is at 9 thursday morning, but it is as likely that we start early the previous day. The selected equipment for the trip is important. It must not risk to get broken by ice. In addition to the isolating layers under the drysuit also a numer of other equipment and food is needed. Listing a few: Sparepaddle, outdoor stowe, 1l water/10km, hot soup, icepicks, spare clothes, watertight bag with cellular phone, camera, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, tent, GPS and some other necessities. The equipment and the food will have a weight of 10 - 20 kg. A journalist with paddle experience is offered to participate in the tour.
