Local ice paddle in march 2007
A paddle tour a sunny day in March when the ice is about to be reduced. The location is between Gullö island and Ekenäs, going along the quiet fairway broken up for the transit of cargo ships to Skuru harbour.

SeaStrip testpaddle on flat water
This kayak is 6.20 long and only 38 cm wide. On this video it was paddled more than 8 knots. The kayak is a experimental first design by Jöns Aschan at Paddlingsfabriken.

Rolling and some other tricks
To learn how to roll is challenging, and once you have done your first you should do more to make your rolling solid and to feel comfortable in many situations and water environments. Breaking waves,, surf, tidal races and river currents. Take safety precausions when you are pushing the limit into new environments and new equipment.

Butterfly roll
Hold your greenland paddle to the right. Knuckles up. Fall into the water on the right and roll up on the left. Wait for the paddle to reach the water surface before you start opening your wings, ie. twisting the kayak by your hips, moving the paddle outwards and leaning back.

Balance brace
As an excersize its useful to learn how you can manouver your kayak by your hips and keep your face above the water or sink. A greenland style paddle with a little boyancy will help. You also need a good fit in the kayak.

Ett litet barn lär sig ännu snabbt att parera kajaken. En liten längd håller tyngdpunkten lågt. Mera längd på barnet kompenseras med mera bredd på kajaken. Vuxen bör alltid vara i omedelbar närhet. Med mera ålder kommer rädslor som sätter barriärer.

En kort 3 åring klarar av en rätt smal kajak. Hon växer mycket på ett år och då kan bredare kajak kompensera höjd tyngdpunkt. Med mera ålder kommer nya rädslor och dom kan gott sätta stopp för fortsatt paddlande i egen kajak tills barnet fåt mycket vattenvana och både dyker och simmar. En vuxen skall alltid finnas i omedelbar närhet.

Rolling ice laboration
When air is colder than water ice will roll ower. An accelereated laboration with a chip of ice in hot water to demontrate.

Moving across rotten ice
Springtime small pillars of ice start moving all the way through the ice. Even if the ice is more than 20cm thick it will not carry the weight of a standing person.
